Pocket
Hard Stone |
Item #SPK-200102 :$4.95
|
 |
|
We offer this small pocket stone for folks who want a handy take-along tool to make quick touch-ups and repairs on the hill or in a pinch. It's a bit too small to fit in bevel guides, so it doesn't lend itself to precision workshop tuning...but it fits easily in your parka pocket and is handy for performing quick on-snow edge touch-ups or rock ding repairs. It measures 4" x 3/4" x 3/8". |
|
|
|
Gummi Stone |
Item #KLG-SF : $4.95
|
|
|
This small rubber abrasive stone is handy for erasing rust from edges, or gently "softening" sharp tip and tail edges where they lift up out of the snow. It can also be used for on-the-slope edge touch-ups and polishing. Since it's softer than a hard stone, it's more forgiving if you're using it without a bevel guide. It measures 3 x 1 x 5/8" so it easily fits in parka pockets to carry with you. |

180 grit 4" ruby Sharpening stone |
Item #SVN-4180 :$12.95
|
|
The 180 grit Ruby Sharpening Stone is a perfect tool for maintaining edge sharpness during the season. It is also well suited for cutting through rock-damaged steel edges that have been 'work-hardened' by impact and look glazed and/or very ragged.
The stone is cut from a super high quality ruby aluminum oxide, the grit is internalized which allows the user to re-fresh the stone and expose a new cutting surface. Use the SVN-SSDF Diamond Redressing Tool or a 4" Moonflex stone in 100 grit and plenty of running water for this task.
Measures 4"x1"x1/4"

dmt POCKET diamond stones- 2.75" (70mm)
These metal and plastic laminate 'stones' have industrial diamonds bonded to them.
DMT diamond stones last a long time if kept clean (we use an old toothbrush with wax remover or Ronson lighter fluid for this), and used with light pressure (a heavy hand can prematurely break diamonds loose from the stone). We also use them wet (dip 'em in a cup of water or use dege polishing solution) to help keep debris from clogging the diamonds. |

aluminum oxide deburring stones
These are bonded hard stones made by fusing the mineral bauxite. They "sand and grind" steel, but not as aggressively as diamond stones, which makes them ideal for deburring base edges...since removing too much base edge can unintentionally create unwanted excess base edge bevel.
We offer four aluminum oxide stones...a coarse 220 grit for repairing rock damage, and increasingly finer 320, 400 and 600 grits for base edge deburring and polishing. The stones measure 4" x 3/4" x 3/8", and can (and should) be used with a bevel guide to ensure precise results.
For best results, we recommend honing and final polishing edge surfaces after using these stones with finer ceramic, arkansas or translucent hard stones.
We also offer these four aluminum oxide stones in a kit in a protective cordura roll-up bag. |

ceramic polishing stones 5"
As racers know, a polished steel edge is a fast edge. These ceramic stones are used after diamond or aluminum oxide stones to final polish and hone base and side edge surfaces. This helps reduce edge drag as well as unwanted rusting. We offer a fine 600-grit stone, an ultrafine 1200-grit stone, and a combo stone with both grits...one on each side. They measure 5" x 1". Some world cup techs feel these stones cut better and last longer if used wet (dip 'em in a cup of water), and brushed clean with an old toothbrush about every 10 tune-ups with a vinegar and water solution (mixed in equal parts), or with a cleanser like Comet or Ajax. All stones include a leather sheath. |

ARKANSAS
POLISHING STONES - 4"
We offer these premium Arkansas stones for the finest, most precise edge honing and finishing results. Extracted from quarries in the Ouachita Mountains of Arkansas, these stones are cut by circular diamond saws from Novaculite blocks (a naturally-occurring 99.9% pure silica sedimentary rock) then lapped smooth and flat on silicon carbide grinding machines. The result is a unique crystal structure that enables it to finely cut, hone and polish steel better than any manmade bonded abrasive stones (including ceramic, aluminum oxide, silicon carbide or diamond). Both stones come in a sturdy leather pouch, and measure 4" x 1" x 1/2" so they can be used in conjunction with most base and side edge bevel guides to precisely maintain your desired bevel angles. |

tuning stick

SkiVisions Tuning Stick |
Item
#SVN-TS : $4.95
|
|
|
Checking the sharpness of steel edges has long been a bit of a guessing game for most tuners. Shaving the face of your fingernail, or dragging the side of a pinkie finger across an edge doesn't provide consistently reliable or accurate feedback...unless maybe you're an ultra-experienced World Cup level technician.
This tuning stick helps resolve that. It's made of a special hard plastic that subtly communicates how sharp or dull your edges are. You hold it at a 45-degree angle to the edge and, bearing down with moderate pressure, simply slide and try to shave some stick material away. If the edge is sharp, you'll feel and hear a noticeable resistance and sound. If the edge is dull, the stick will not shave...but slide without much resistance or sound.
When you first get a tuning stick, try it on some edges you've ridden for a day or two. You'll be surprised how much duller they usually feel underfoot (due to greater wear from skier/rider weight and pressure) than at the tips and tails. Try it again after tuning and see the difference...it will be noticeable if you've tuned effectively. If you impart a sharper bevel angle underfoot than at the tips and tails, the stick will also detect this. Likewise, you'll also be able to hear and feel the difference between burred edges and deburred/polished edges.
The SkiVisions tuning stick is such a simple yet revealing tool that can give you invaluable tuning feedback. |
