- This repair string works better than traditional drip repair candles when filling base gouges for several reasons.
- First, it's made of harder and more durable polyethylene, so your repair jobs wear longer and don"t "dish out" prematurely.
- Secondly, since it is melted into gouges using our P-Tex Base Repair Iron instead of burning with an open flame, no smudgy black carbon particles are created which invariably fall in the gouge and create cosmetically ugly and mushier repairs.
- This string is 1/8" in diameter and comes in 10 foot long rolls...enough material to keep most bases patched through a full season.
- This material bonds best in deeper gouges, and can be applied atop metalgrip repair string when making repairs to core shots or along steel edges.

I took a core shot to my brand new board, probably 2-3 inches long of exposure directly to the wood. I had my local fix it, but with such a long area in a high flex/stress area, it cracked out. I used this with a soldering iron after first applying the ToGnar Metal grip, and it has yet to crack out after 5-6 hard uses. I do not expect it to last forever, as the spot is in the middle of the board, but it is exactly as I imagined and lasted longer.
Bought it with a bunch of stuff three years ago. Just used today to fill some shallow gouge. Adhesion is excellent! We will see how good it holds up.
This stuff goes on pretty much as advertised. Haven't had it on long enough to tel about durability, but... (see below) My only caution is that I found it hard to scrape off pieces that extend above the surface. Would recommend either making certain to get all of it well down in the hole, or using a knife to take off any protrusions before finishing with a candle.
I had a really deep and large damage going down to the wooden base. Appied P-tex with a soldering iron. It worked great on the first shot. It sticks for more than 2 years now.

I applied the material with a soldering iron. It worked just great. No soot at all. So far all repaired areas are still fine.
The use of my new P-Tex Base Repair Iron made it easy to melt the P-Tex string into the crack better than my old iron or drip methods.

Best installed when used with their corresponding p tex iron. Watch the video and practice on an old ski. Proper heat is the key.....and gently massage the material with the iron tip. Just like welding.....watch where you are going AND what where you have been. Much more durable than drip sticks I have used for 30 plus years.
