Product Description

  • This precision hand-planing tool uses a hardened steel bar to cleanly shave off high or low spots on p-tex bases, remove existing oxidized p-tex areas,as well as shave off unwanted p-tex hairs and microhairs.
  • Although this steel bar is also hard enough to cut down steel edges if they"re too high, we recommendyou use a mill file to do that job and save your steel bar from unnecessary wear.
  • A few quick passes with these tools after every week or so on the slopes will freshen up your structure, keep the base flat, and improve its ability to absorb wax.
  • These periodic touch-ups significantly improve performance without removing excess base material.
  • Replacement and optional blades are available.
  • For comprehensive information on using this tool, click here.
  • Stones can be redressed.
  • Tools and stones made in the USA.

The ski version works with all alpine or nordic skis, and comes with a 6" hardened steel cutting bar, a 6" medium structure ruby stone and a brass cleaning brush. An optional 6" coarse structure stone is available.

  1. Simple and effective

Posted by Steve Ghera on 26th Mar 2012

I use their Ski Sharp Edge tuning tool too. This Base Flattening & Structure tool is even easier to use that that one. Do read their web site's instructions - very helpful - before you start. It only took 2 or three passes (4-6 strokes per pass) down each ski to flatten and texture the ski. I used hardware store acetone to remove wax from base first. I'm a spring skier so I'm going to purchase the course texture stone.

  2. Never have to go for any more stinkin stonegrinds

Posted by Unknown on 23rd Dec 2011

I never liked stone grinds. They were expensive and frequently my skis were really difficult to ski on after a new grind. With this tool, I never go get grinds any more, my skis work really well, and I save a lot of money. I am really happy with it. I do like the coarse stone more than the medium, it does more work when needed.

  3. Works well with practice.

Took a couple pairs of skis to get the hang of using this but once I did I'm happy with the results. I'm not trying to shave every tenth or hundredth, just want a ski that performs well. Definitely don't need to go beyond the medium grit stone unless you are removing a lot of material.
