Product Description

  • P-tex repair material by itself does not bond well to steel, aluminum, wood, or fiberglass...so if you get a deep gouges that expose core material, or are along steel edges, it won't stay in place.
  • Metalgrip string is a mix of polyethylene and heat-sensitive adhesive which is melted using our P-Tex Base Repair Iron into core-shot gouges or along steel edges.
  • Metalgrip is softer than pure P-Tex repair material, for best results apply a thin layer of Metal grip, allow it to cool, then apply a layer of P-Tex String or P-Tex Repair Ribbon over the top. This will increase the durability and longevity of your repair.
  • Metalgrip string is 5mm thick.
  • Available in black or clear.
  • Sold as a 5-foot (1.5m) roll.

  1. It holds on core and deep exposed edge shots

Posted by Rusty G. on 14th Mar 2013

I have used this quite a bit this season. From Tognar, and stuff I already had before replenishing here. It wears long and bonds well with all sorts of exposed core material. The trick for best adhesion is the prep. You want to xacto the edges of the shot to form a key (an inward facing angle toward the base / \). Clean it very well and then iron it in. Top off with some p-tex ribbon or candles. All the repairs I've made this season are holding up very well.

  2. It worked with ptex wouldn't

Posted by Unknown on 7th Feb 2013

I had a pretty bad core shot right up against an edge and my ptex repairs would always rip out within a single day of skiing. I gave metalgrip a shot and my repair has held up to about 10 days of skiing now, with no signs of wear. It wasn't hard to work with at all, I find ptex ribbon harder to solder than this stuff. I'm sold.

  3. Much tougher than P-Tex

Posted by Phil on 31st Jan 2013

This stuff is tough as nails. Takes some getting used to melting it on but once you get the hang of it, it works well

  4. easy

Posted by Unknown on 21st Jan 2013

Easy to use, but didn't create a very strong bond with the base. It came out the first couple times I used it, but I am a beginner when it comes to ski repair.

  5. Works a treat!

Posted by Doug on 2nd Aug 2012

I used this to repair a long core short in my snowboard. I put metalgrip in first then ptex string over the top all applied with the TOgnar repair iron. So far it has worked a treat. Takes a little practise to get used to but you get the hang of it quickly. Highly recommended! :)

  6. This saved my board

Posted by Unknown on 26th Oct 2011

I had a gouge taken out along the edge of my board that everytime I repaired it would pop out first run, even after taking it in to a professional shop it still popped out first run. I finally got this stuff and applied along the metal edge with the iron and fallowed it up with some p-tex striping to fill in the remaining void space, this lasted me the rest of the season. Takes a little practice but very useful stuff when used correctly.
