The tool is great for its original purpose, but I have also found it to be excellent for removing the excess material from p-tex repairs. It cuts grooves through the p-tex without pulling it out, even for shallow fills. I follow this with the steel blade and the course stone that come with the SkiVisions base flattener. May not look quite as good as a machine grind, but works just as well and saves me lots of money.

I am only giving this tool 4 stars. I bought this tool last year. When it came I was having a little party and it became the main attraction. PBR and tuning makes the perfect party. Everyone was amazed how it found concave spots on every pair of skis we tried it on.
We all think we are pretty good tuners so this was a surprise. In just several minutes the concave spots would be gone and the base consistent. The next morning the tool was gone. Someone took it and passed it around. When I got it back it looked like the file was used as a ping pong paddle for rocks. I bought a new pair of skis this year and needed a new file but I couldn't fine one anywhere. I emailed skivisions and they said the file for the tool needs a very specific tooth cut pattern and the one I got came from a factory that went out of business. They said a new and even better file would be ready in about 2 weeks. I will change my rating to 5 if I can get a new file and it works as good as the last one. I wish I didn't share it and won't do that again. I think I will hide it.
