Extras
ERGO REPLACEMENT ROUND BLADE
This is a replacement for the round blade included with the tool
Round blades work well on skis with cap construction (angled sidewalls).
ERGO OPTIONAL SQUARE BLADE
This is an optional blade for the Ergo sidewall planer.
Square blades work well on skis with traditional sidewall construction (vertical sidewalls).
Why Plane your Sidewalls?
It's often frustrating and difficult to bevel the side edges on skis and snowboards because overhanging plastic sidewall material gets in the way to impede cutting action and quickly clog up file teeth.
Removing this plastic material makes beveling and filing much easier.
It can be done if you're ultra careful using a hand-held file, but this is tricky stuff for most mere mortals since it's also real easy to slip up and damage your steel edge in the process.
The safest and fastest way is to use a sidewall planer.
These tools utilize a sharp carbide steel blade to shave away as much (or little) of the plastic sidewall material as you want at a precise depth from tip to tail.
Cut just enough material away for the file to get a good bite on the edge material, usually a pass or two is enough.
