baserep DON'T SUCK ON THE SLOPES!
Structuring helps a ski or snowboard glide more efficiently by breaking up suction that forms due to water between your base and the snow. It also makes a board or ski easier to turn for greater control. See our structure tools below.

SKIVISIONS STRUCTURE & BASE FLATTENER TOOLskivision
This has long been one of our most popular tools for. Why? Flattening a ski or snowboard base is one of the most challenging and difficult tasks for home tuners. Sure, hand sanding will do the job, but it is usually time-consuming and creates lots of unwanted p-tex hairs that take even more time to remove. Flat-filing is another option, but is rarely accurate since few files a perfectly flat to begin with and invariably bend when you bear down on 'em....creating an even more concave base. A stonegrind at the local ski shop is an alternative if you can afford it...but, as the saying goes, "the quality of the finished job is only as good as the nut at the other end of the machine". So what can ya do?
This precision hand-planing tool uses a hardened steel bar to cleanly shave off high or low spots on p-tex bases, remove existing oxidized p-tex areas,as well as shave off unwanted p-tex hairs and microhairs. Although this steel bar is also hard enough to cut down steel edges if they're too high, we recommendyou use a mill file to do that job and save your steel bar from unnecessary wear. The snowboard version relies on a 12" medium grit ruby stone blade to effectively achieve the similar results.

Both tools accommodate a variety of stone blades so you can impart a linear base structure on your skis or snowboard. A few quick passes with these tools after every week or so on the slopes will freshen up your structure, keep the base flat, and improve its ability to absorb wax. These periodic touch-ups significantly improve performance without removing excess base material.

The ski version works with all alpine or nordic skis, and comes with a 6" hardened steel cutting bar (wide enough to span nearly any ski in a single pass), a 6" medium structure ruby stone (wide enough to span almost any ski in a single pass, and the very widest skis in two passes), plus full instructions.
The snowboard version comes packaged with a 12" medium ruby stone structure blade.
Replacement and optional blades are available for imparting a variety of structures, including an extra-coarse stone for aggressively removing excess p-tex on particularly convex or concave bases (before using the steel blade).
A special 100 grit diamond stone (SVN-SSDF) is available for re-dressing stone blades and a 4” x 1” 80 grit silica carbide hand stone (SVN-BLSS)is offered for sharpening the steel blade.

riller bar snowflake BRASS RILLER BAR
A simple tool that imparts two structure patterns on a ski or snowboard... fine on one edge for dry snow (.5mm) and coarse on the other for wet snow (.75mm). Hold the bar on edge and draw or push it along the full length of the p-tex base from tip to tail...using your thumbs as a guide to insure a straight pattern. If held across the base, with the top of the bar leaning back toward the tip, it will "press" in a structure. The brass bar will not scratch steel edges. 12" length.

BASE STRUCTURING PAPER
Sand your p-tex bases with progressively finer grit paper to flatten them. This stearated silicon-carbide paper cuts cleaner and leaves less residue in bases than regular sandpaper. The 80 grit paper is coarsest, 400 grit is finest. Three 9" x 11" sheets are included in each pack. We always recommend using sandpaper in conjunction with a sanding block or sanding tube to ensure that pressure is evenly applied across your base.

steel base brush BASE CLEANING BRUSH
This steel brush is specifically designed with medium stiff bristles to be used periodically to clean and open up base structures. More aggressive than a brass brush, it's regularly used by many world cup techs who prefer to stonegrind and structure bases only once at the beginning of each season, and then maintain them using this brush. Two models are available...a 3 inch x 5 inch rectangular brush, and a larger size oval brush with leather hand strap for extra leverage and power.

STRUCTURE REFRESHING BRUSH
Although it may look like a barbeque brush, this special structuring brush features extra sharp steel bristles that aggressively scour the structure on ski and snowboard bases. As such, we offer it primarily for those especially wizened, experienced or professional technicians who understand how and when to use it…and otherwise recommend most  other mere mortals (yes, this probably means you) use our more user-friendly ‘steel base refreshing brush’ (above) for your structure cleaning needs.

sc pads snowflake SCOTCHBRITE PADS
These 6" x 9" abrasive pads are handy for a variety of uses, although they're most popular for scrubbing unwanted p-tex "hairs" off of bases after they've been freshly flattened or structured. We also use them to clean off the warm tips of base repair irons and pistols, cleaning wax off ski and snowboard sidewalls after hot-waxing, etc. For most effective use, back these pads with a scotchbrite holder or sanding block to ensure even pressure. For most work, start with the medium (aluminum oxide) pads, followed up by the fine (silicon carbide) pads. Always wipe bases clean after any scotchbriting to remove any loose particles left behind by the pads.

ski snowboard base prep pad snowflake OMNI-PREP PAD
These thick white pads help erase any microscopic p-tex hairs left on a base after scotchbriting or fibertexing. In the past, it took days of riding before the natural abrasive action of snow crystals would scour off these drag-inducing microhairs...these pads greatly reduce that time. They are sold individually to be used handheld or in conjunction with a rotobrush fibertex drum.

base polishing cloth BASE POLISHING CLOTH
This special microfiber cloth helps remove unwanted ultrafine p-tex hairs after structuring bases by machine or hand tool. Make several passes against the hairs until the cloth slides freely down the base when it's tilted at a 45° angle. Use it after rubbing bases with a scotchbrite and or omni-prep pad for the best results. This polishing cloth can be machine washed periodically for greater longevity.

ski base shaver MICROHAIR BASE SHAVER
No, this ain't for shaving beards or 5 o'clock shadows...it's a tool for scraping any ski or snowboard base after they've been stoneground or hand-structured. The sharp flexible blades help remove unwanted p-tex microhairs for faster base glide. To use, tilt the handle in the direction of travel with the blade following behind...like using a paintbrush. We recommend about 10 light passes per ski, with blade replacement after shaving a dozen pair of skis.

magnifier BASE & EDGE MAGNIFIER
Inspecting and evaluating the condition of base material and edges...whether it's the base structure definition, the finish of steel edge surfaces, the presence of unwanted p-tex hairs or oxidation...is a skill that yields valuable information not easily available by other means. To that end, we offer this 5 power magnifier which is ideal for base and edge inspections, and doubles as a good hand lens for examining snow crystals too.
